Please look over this list and decide where you can contribute support through time, talent, and treasure. Some opportunities are one-time or short term events, others are ongoing commitments. A variety of talents are needed. Please call the number listed if you can help or call our parish office: 845-6715
Social Justice Committee:
Meets eight times a year to review projects that provide help to those in need in our parish families, local community and beyond through education and assistance. The committee also resources membership for the various ministries and activities, as well as provide education of projects and activities. New members and interested parishioners are welcome.
St. Vincent de Paul:
This international organization is made up of lay Catholic men and women who are committed to live and grow in their Christian faith through prayer and personal involvement in charitable works. Our world-wide mission is to help the needy in countless ways, primarily through one-on-one contact of volunteers with children, families, and the homeless. We accomplish this mission through parish and community based groups called Conferences.
HUNGER CONCERNS
Salvation Army Saturday Meals:Volunteer to serve the noon meal on the first Saturday every other month (January, March, July, September, November) from 9:30a.m.-1:00p.m. You may do this once a year or as often as you like. A team leader is needed and 3-4 volunteers for each of the Saturdays. If interested please call Barb Mullen at 845-1397.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing: Work with the Salvation Army in helping the needy in our parishes and community. The commitment is one hour during the Christmas season. Open to all ages.
Jubilee House: Volunteer to help prepare and serve a Thursday evening meal at our local Catholic Worker House of Hospitality. St. Michael’s Parish provides a meal and hospitality once every few months. Please call Sue Grunow to volunteer at 842-2535.
Neighbor’s Place: Volunteers are needed for two hours once a month to work the food pantry. Please call, Mary Ostertag at 842-2699.
Weekly Food Collection: Parishioners are asked to donate non-perishable food and household items to the baskets at church entrances. These items are distributed to the Women’s Community and the Eastside Food Pantry.
Hunger Walk: The Hunger Walk is Deanery sponsored. Volunteers would help with the coordination of this yearly walk for hunger in the parish.
PRO-LIFE
Right to Life Advertisement: Persons to collect money and names for inclusion in local ad in opposition to abortion.
Mother’s Day Rose and Father’s Day Carnation Sale: Person to sell flowers after all the Masses.
Baby Shower: Items that are collected are for the Marathon County Public Health Nurses to distribute to low income families.
Pro-Life Activities: To support the Hope Pregnancy Center.
EDUCATION
Respect for Life Core Group: Provides educational opportunities regarding life issues and encourages support for local pro-life activities. All are welcome.
Social Justice Information Providers: Write articles for the newsletter or present mini-workshops on Social Justice issues such as hunger, the homeless, the imprisoned, and equitable distribution of resources.
Stewardship Ministry: Develop and promote ideas on stewardship as a way of life. The committee meets the third Wednesday of the month. |
